On May 2nd, the Official Google Webmaster Central Blog has released an update to their HTML & CSS coding guidelines doc. Several notable recommendations below.

No more screenshots and embedding them as images! Twitter has launched Blackbird Pie, a service to create a nice looking embedable tweet code in HTML, nicely making use of your awesome Twitter background. You can try it out here: http://media.twitter.com/blackbird-pie/

There is much hype surrounding website UI design, and a large variety of tools claiming to help optimise the said interface; however, the most useful piece of theory I have found on the topic is dated 1998 and was written by somebody called Talin, whose home page now returns a 404.

It was written with reference to program design rather than website design, but I think these 14 principles apply cross-topic.
