Sydney-based Collider was awarded the top prize for Commercials – Visual Effects at the 2010 Australian Effects and Animation Festival Awards (AEAF) last night for Nestle Club ‘Intense Pleasure’, via agency JWT Sydney. The spot was directed by Collider co-founder and creative director, Andrew van der Westhuyzen. And it’s stirring and delicious….

One of the most elaborate typefaces I’ve seen, Phaeton is a beautiful font with hidden gems of beauty everywhere. The font’s nearly 600 characters includes a large number of alternates, ornaments, decorative banners, picto-glyphs, swash capitals, and 49 wordmark glyphs for ‘and,’ ‘the,’ ‘with’ etc. All characters are hand-drawn (and you can see it). Based on Zain’s corporate typeface, Avenir, and their request for a patterned headline font, Fontsmith came up with this beauty; created by Fontsmith’s Arabic specialist, Emanuela Conidi, this font comes in a single headline weight in both Latin and Arabic language scripts as well as a special weight for numbers (it is a phone company after all).

If you’re not familiar with 300&65, this is a blog celebrating the beauty of the ampersand. A new one is posted each day, and they are exquisite. I have wanted to blog about 300&65 for a long while now, so here it is, a small selection from the past 2-3 months.

Jessica Hische is a typographer and illustrator working in Brooklyn, New York. She has “Type” tattooed on her left triceps. She is young, vibrant and enormously talented. Her work is stunning and inspirational.

I was doing this recently for a client, and I have to say I was amazed how EASY it is to get a custom tab on one’s official page, with just a bit of CSS & HTML.

After much browsing on logopond and behance, this is what this year looks like in logo design.

Another logo I came across during my Sydney adventures; this one belongs to the Small Animals Specialist Hospital. Why it’s great Friendly, comforting and cheerful – and admire the distressed “a”, like a wounded animal, supported and aided by the other letters. Love it – if someone knows the designer let me know!
