Design, Resources

I was searching for a font for a design the other day, and I ended up doing the inevitable: browsing aimlessly through all the fonts on DaFont.com. I came across quite a few cool ones, but I picked 10 new fonts I thought could be quite useful in graphic design.

So here they are, in no particular order:

  1. Nathaniel
  2. Free font - NathanielVery nice handwritten font, this is what I’ve used for the post’s thumbnail. I can see quite a few applications for this typeface. Free for personal use.

  3. MKF Tiler
  4. Free font - MKF Tiler
Not sure what to use this for, but it is very nicely done, and a lot of thought went into crafting each of the letters. Free for personal use.

  5. Alien Strawberry
  6. Free font - Alien Strawberry
Lovey handwritten font, with a wide applicability. Would love to see examples, if people use this for their designs.

  7. Stylar Stencil
  8. Free font - Stylar Stencil

  9. HVD Peace
  10. Free font - HVD Peace
Grunge font with a military tint. Can only visualise this one on military colours and camouflage patterns. Free for personal use.

  11. Capture It
  12. Free font - Capture ItGrunge font again, this time with a wider applicability; very well shaped, it can be used for any artwork that requires a grungy feel without going overboard.

  13. Nolla
  14. Free font - Nolla
Very elegant, Nolla would look great on cosmetics ads or collateral, or anything that requires a simple, fluid typeface. Free for personal use.

  15. Los Vatos Locos
  16. Free font - Los Vatos Locos
Crazy little font, Los Vatos Locos could look very well for logo design or poster design. Again, would love to see what people use this one for.

  17. Heroin 07
  18. Free font - Heroin 07
Great grunge font, would look awesome in combination with various stone, brick or metal texture. Has got a graffiti feel about it.

  19. Ginga
  20. Free font - Ginga
Slightly grungy as well, Ginga has beautiful curves and would look very much at home on a DVD sleeve or t-shirt design. It also comes with a nice grunge brush for Photoshop.

Nice fonts Ema. I particularly like the handwrite-type of fonts. They look nice. The only problem is that you can not put them as text on site, only as image.

Hi Pawel – yep, that’s true; these are only useful for print. For websites we’ll have to stick to “Arial, Verdana, sans serif” for the time being. I’m not a big fan of Helvetica and hate Times with a passion, but I am using Georgia a bit more these days, just to break the monotony a little.

Agreed, monotonous it can become. But IMO it’s better than having comic sans all over the place!

I’ll forward these to my brother – http://www.lightbulb.co.za/. He does quite a bit of print work.

Thanks for sharing the collection :)

Haha, definitely gotta pick “viva los vatos locos” as my favorite.

#8 is my favorite with #3 coming in a close second. The first one looks like a graffiti tag and #3 reminds me of scribbling in high school.
