If you're a designer, things are never as easy as "making things pretty". More often that not, a graphic designer has to design something that will sell. A lot of times the design experience will help with optimising a design for conversion; however there are times when experience and flair will only take you that far.

Oh the delicate and subtle beauty of these posters! The brilliant Art Director, "guilty" for many other achievements that deserve a few more articles, is Stefan Vasilachi of Grey Worldwide Romania. And the happy client was Carturesti Library, Romania.

I initially meant to do a post on portraits; and then I got stuck on Candice Wouters, a South African born photographer now living in London, whose work I stumbled upon while browsing for something or the other on Flickr. It was a bit inconvenient that her photos come in fairly small sizes, but even [...]

This post contains some of the most beautiful illustrations I've seen in a while. I tried to include a variety of manga-style art, that spans a range of mediums and techniques. And make sure to scroll all the way down, I've saved the best for last!

The theory splits these non-converting prospects into prospects that need more information in order to feel comfortable enough to purchase; and prospects who are confident about the product but are price sensitive and are shopping for a more affordable option. To cater to these two very different categories of non-converting prospects vendors have to target them with a communication programme tailored to their respective areas of concern. These two flowcharts should come in useful for structuring your lead nurturing campaigns.

There is much hype surrounding website UI design, and a large variety of tools claiming to help optimise the said interface; however, the most useful piece of theory I have found on the topic is dated 1998 and was written by somebody called Talin, whose home page now returns a 404. It was written with reference to program design rather than website design, but I think these 14 principles apply cross-topic.

I came across Sandra Suy's work quite recently; I just love fashion illustration (probably because I used to do a bit of it myself in a previous life); and Sandra's work is sharp, and minimalistic, and beautiful.

Well I have to say this year left me a bit unimpressed with the quality of the ads. The godaddy ones were a lame attempt to reiterate the buzz they (accidentally) accomplished last year; Doritos had a range of ads, some good, some not quite; and the Chicken Warning ones were downright gross. Sorry folks, [...]

Because this was really fun to do yesterday, I have another moodboard for you; this time around it is about Paris, the fall, the elusive “amour”, colourful scarves dotting the grey city and my fave pick-me-up colour: orange. On a side note: I just adore the Hermes scarf…. Moodboard The soundtrack References Jean-Luc Duez’s Amour Hermes scarf Lovers – Courtesy of [...]

I know this is a bit left-field, but I felt a different vibe today and had to get it of my chest. Sydney was so grey and green and full of jacaranda flowers, and I felt so…well, a bit like this: Moodboard The soundtrack References Dietmar Busse Light of Hope Jacarandas

Now this is not something one comes across every day: it’s a campaign for turning in your gun. Simple and very, very effective: structured like a labyrinth, with the gun at the centre of it and the message: “The game ends when they find it. Save a life, give your gun. Disarming house campaign stop. Act. Denounce.” This one made [...]

Two of the many ads in the “Get a word view series”. As always, subtle and to the point – and I’m loving the Economist red that make the ad so very distinctive. This awesome video is part of an initiative by the folks at Volkswagen in Sweden, called The Fun Theory. The theory is that something as simple as fun is the easiest way to change people’s behaviour for the better. The results seem to confirm the theory – the piano staircase resulted in a 66% [...]

Probably funnier if you have or had cats and know their quirks, but funny anyway. Had a good laugh today looking at these and thought I'd share the best I found (btw, the video is awesome!)

I don't think there are many words to describe this. Just heartbreaking. The agency is Casanova Pendrill NY, and they specialise in Hispanic Communications. They also received a wide range of national and international creative awards, including Advertising Age Gold, Silver and Bronze, FIAP gold, silver and bronze, Addy, New York Festival, etc.
